Hello everyone! I am going to be doing the first of many book reviews, today. I hope that I can get you all interested in a few new books!
I was given the opportunity to read "Hidden Under Her Heart" by Rachelle Ayala, and I have to say that I did enjoy it. It is in a genre of books that I would not normally read; Christian Romance. However, it was a decent read.
*TRIGGER WARNING* The book discusses a variety of issues, and touches on everything from rape to abortion. This book has a pro-life feel, but it would be a good read for those that are on both sides of this issue.
That being said, lets get into the meat of the story! The author did a great job of introducing us to the characters, and we learn a bit more about their pasts, as they get to know one another. *Abstract taken from the author* Unwanted pregnancies bring a torrent of emotions and choices.
Maryanne Torres tries to gain validation and love by giving more in each relationship than she takes. Her boyfriend, Lucas Knight believes his reason for existence lies in becoming a triathlon champion. An unexpected pregnancy forces Maryanne to examine her past while Lucas is torn between concern and bitterness. A tiny life hangs on the balance. Is it worthless because it is unwanted?
I don't want to give away too much of the story, but there is more to it than meets the eye! I will say that one of the things that I appreciated in this story, is that the author didn't make Lucas Knight, a stereotypical black character. It was refreshing to read a story, where the black character was actually doing something with himself.
There was only a few things that were a little bothersome, and that was how often the main characters were at odds with one another over trivial things. It was almost hard to remember that they were adults, and not teenagers.
All in all, I think that this would be a good weekend read, and one that will have you thinking about things from a different point of view. If you are interested in this book, you can find it HERE
