Whether you are looking to lose weight, or just change the way you eat, there is no secret that eating clean, whole foods is the way to go. Whether it be it solid form, or in smoothie form, eating fruit, vegetables, nuts, and healthy fats can help you become a healthier, and happier you. These two books Clean Food Diet, and Green Smoothies, by Jonathan Vine, will get you on your way to a healthier lifestyle.
In his book Clean Food Diet, Johnathan helps us discover:
What is clean eating is
What to eat
How to eat clean
How to cook clean
As Jonathan mentions in this book, beginning a clean eating "diet" or lifestyle can be hard, because we are accustomed to processed foods that are so readily available in the average grocery store. Even if we all wanted to jump headlong into a clean eating lifestyle, the price of that lifestyle will stop most people in their tracks. Sadly, processed foods are cheaper, but with the right planning we can eliminate them from our diets without breaking the bank.
Jonathan has included more than 50 recipes, that he has divided into categories:
One of my favorite recipes is the Fall Soup:
This soup combines what this season has to give us best: squash, bell peppers and tomatoes. The ingredients are pureed together to create a creamy and rich soup, perfect for a comforting lunch or dinner. Time: 45 minutes Servings: 8
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, chopped
cups butternut squash cubes
1 pinch cinnamon powder
1 pinch ground cardamom
¼ teaspoon anise seeds
1 red bell pepper, cored and chopped
1 tomato, chopped
cups vegetable stock
1 cup water
Salt and pepper to taste
¼ cup chopped walnuts to serve
Directions: 1 Heat the oil in a soup pot and stir in the onion and garlic. Sauté for 2 minutes. Stir in the squash, cinnamon, cardamom, anise seeds, bell pepper and tomato then add the stock and water. Season with salt and pepper and cook over medium flame for 20-30 minutes. Puree the soup with an immersion blender and serve it warm, topped with walnuts.

There are 50 recipes for delicious green smoothies, and my favorite, given the season, is the Sweet Potato Smoothie.
Raw sweet potato is rich and creamy, sweet and delicious and has a high nutritional content, its main nutrients being beta-carotene. This recipe asks for a touch of spinach for a nutritional boost, but you can replace the spinach with any other fruit or vegetable. Servings: 4
1 ripe banana
2 cups fresh spinach
1 large sweet potato, peeled and diced
1 cup almond milk
½ cup crushed ice
Directions: Combine all the ingredients in a blender and pulse until smooth and creamy. Pour the smoothie in glasses and serve it as fresh as possible.
