As parents, we are always worrying about whether we are doing a good job raising our kids to be respectful. Sometimes, life gets busy, and the most important lessons get pushed aside. Then we are left wondering where we went wrong. We end up with kids that whine, are mean, out of control, entitled, and impatient. We need a refresher course in being virtuous, and that is exactly what the people over at We Choose Virtues, aim to do with their courses.

#WeChooseVirtues

Starting with their poster, which lists all 12 virtues, your child can look to see how they should be acting in any given situation. With each virtue, your child is given an example of what they SHOULD be doing, and an example of what NOT to do.

I have this poster up at eye level, in our home classroom. It is very easy for me to send my kids to it, if they start to exhibit behavior that is unacceptable. Now, neither of my kids can read, so I went over the poster when I first received it. Explaining each picture to the kids, so while they can't read it, they do remember what the picture means, and can adjust their behavior.

Even my son, who has Autism, and thus a hard time understanding things, has a grasp on many of these virtues. It has definitely turned the tables in this house.

The second item that I think every parent should have, is this set of Parenting Cards. They come in both King James Version, and New International Version. However, you don't have to follow the Bible memory saying in order to still teach the virtue.

#WeChooseVirtues

This set of 12 cards, contains a Virtue, a user challenge, Contentment, What to say after "I'm Sorry", Teachable moments for content families, and an introduction to one of the VirtueVille Kids.

These are great exercises, to help you regain control, and make sure that you no longer have to worry about whether or not you are raising your kids right. The truth is, teaching our kids to be virtuous, has nothing to do with being religious, but rather with making sure that our kids know that there is a way to live life without being mean, whining, out of control, entitled, and impatient people.
