#Finding the Grain

I recently finsihed reading, Finding the Grain, buy Shulamit Hartal, and I have to say how amazed I am with how well this book was written. Even more so because it was originally written in Hebrew, and translated to English...flawlessly I might add.

In this story we learn about the life of Chani Tavin, and we learn it through a series of letters and stories told by Chani's family and friends over the course of a 7 day mourning period, when Chani passes away.

We are told about Chani's life as a child, growing up with an emotionally abusive mother. At two and half years old, Chani stops crying for good, after her mother tells her that she is never to cry again. She is stuck with her mother, and is subjected to different levels of emotional abuse...to the point where, her mother doesn't even recognise when Chani is limping due to a nail that is embedded in her shoe.

Later we learn about how Chani becomes engrossed in a stack of Psychology books that she happens to trip over, taking them home with her, and becoming so involved in what they say and applying them to the things in her life that she is still angry over.

Sadly, just as Chani has a breakthrough, she unexpectedly dies. Leaving her family, their stories, and her letters, to tell the story. There is so much in this story, so many emotions, so much soul searching, and for those readers that can relate to Chani's struggles, it opens up a door to maybe attempt to battle their own demons...I know that it did for me.

I highly suggest reading Finding The Grain by Shulamit Hartal, which you can find on Amazon for $3.99 (Kindle)
