Omega-3 fatty acids are an important part of our daily diet, yet many people simply don't consume enough fish to get them naturally. Most people get more than enough Omega 6 and 9 in their diets, especially if they eat meat and consume vegetable oils.
The best way to supplement your diet with a good Omega 3, if you don't eat fish, is to take a fish oil supplement. I have tried a few over the years, and so far my favorite has to be this Omega-3 from NutriRevolution.
The bottle contains 60 softgels, that are actually smaller than other Omega-3 capsules that I have taken, but the thing that stood out the most is that there was no nasty fishy aftertaste, that you can sometimes get with other supplements. No "fish burps" from this product!
The other great thing about Omega-3 is that it is good for a host of issues, including but not limited too:
Decreasing your chance of heart disease by 32%
Decreasing your chances of a heart attack by an astounding 70%
Reducing the pain from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
Reducing the risk of pneumonia by 35%
This particular brand of Omega-3 provides a full 100 mg of DHA in every serving, and you only need to take 1 capsule 2-3 times a day with meals. They are easy to swallow, and as I mentioned there is no fishy aftertaste, although there is a slight fish smell when opening the bottle.
Omega-3 is great for joint health, and inflammation, but more importantly, it is great for brain health. I have been giving my 7 year old an Omega-3 supplement, hoping that it would help with his Autism, and on the days that he takes it, I have noticed that it is easier for him to focus in class and at home, as well as easier for him to form his sentences when explaining things.
It is no cure, but it does lessen the stress and anxiety that he has. I will continue to give him Omega-3, and will continue to take it myself, as I have noticed a decrease in the occurrence of knee swelling and pain.
