*I am receiving Nutrisystem free in exchange for blogging about my weight loss journey* "Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change" ~Jim Rohn
I have reached the end of my first week on Nutrisystem, and to be honest, is was much harder than I imagined it would be. You would think that having your daily meals, already laid out for you, would be easy - and that part is. It was the eating so few calories, and getting into a routine of when to eat, to stretch my calories through the day, so that I wouldn't be starving before I was even ready to go to bed.
After the first day, it did get easier, stretching the time between meals, and shakes, to every 4 hours instead of every 2 hours. Even then, I would find myself with late night hunger pains, that sometimes could be silenced by crunching away of fresh veggies. That is one amazing part of this lifestyle change - unlimited non-starchy veggies, which is great for someone like me, who loves veggies.
The meals for the most part were pretty good, but as with everything that you eat, there were some that just didn't cut it - thankfully those were few and far between. In fact, I think there were only 4 total, that I didn't care for, between my 7 lunch, and 7 dinner options.
My favorite breakfast, was the cinnamon streusel muffin, which had great flavor, but is much more dense than your average muffin - still, paired with a cup of coffee (black, due to not allowing extras the first week), it was a great breakfast.
My absolute favorite lunch, was the White Bean Chicken Chili. It was packed full of flavor, and had a great amount of heat in it. It is one of the meals, that I would gladly eat, time and again.
My favorite dinner, was the Chicken Pasta Parmesan. It had good flavor, and paired well with a nice salad loaded with fresh veggies. The pasta was a bit overcooked, but that was to be expected, especially with a packaged meal.
All in all, I am impressed with the meals - they certainly don't taste like "diet food", and the shakes that I drank twice daily, had a great fudge flavor. The morning shake, was the TurboShake, which is full of protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, and would tide you over between breakfast, and lunch. The afternoon shake, was the NutriCrush shake, which is a craving crusher shake, to help ward off those hunger cravings you will experience during your first week, it has a fudge flavor as well.
Now, for my second week, I will be adding more to my diet - things like, peanut butter, eggs, and dairy. I also get to start having other snacks, and dessert! The snacks and desserts, are supplied by Nutrisystem, and fit well into the diet.
So, how did my first week go? Well, I am a firm believer that the best way to change, is through a combination of diet and exercise, however, I wanted to see what would happen with diet change alone. So, other than my daily 10,000 steps, tracked by my trusty Fitbit, I did not exercise AT ALL, and I STILL lost 5 lbs!
This week, I will add in a regular workout, to see just how far I can push this weight loss! I will be training with my husband (bodybuilder), as well as continuing with my daily 10,000 steps. See you back here next week!
